I have a bad feeling a local pond around 1 acre is suffering from lack of cover. What are some DIY's for making fish cover? I coyuld buy porcupine fish attractors but for 3 its around 70$! Thats a new combo or a whole new stocked tackle box!

Wait until after Xmas and throw everyones christmas trees in. We did it all the time for crappie beds.

only 1 prob, 1 acre lake= no boats. Too tight for kayaks and christmas tree is too big for a 10ft yak. good idea tho

you just go on it when its frozen over. then tie the tree to a cinder block and in the spring when the ice melts you have a sunken tree. pretty simple.

I'm guessing most lakes in GA don't freeze over.

There's no ice in the south. It's funny how sure you were about that plan too.

I would go to a big grocery store and ack if they would give you some plastic crates. My local H.E.B.s always have all different shaped crates and pallets just sitting around in the back that are great for fish habitat... and they are happy to give them away. We used them for my friends pond. The fish love them, hooks don't get caught, and best of all, with a good arm, you can toss them pretty far.

Whatever you toss in there, don't get caught for littering.

Using plastic crates would be fine for a private pond, I'd be hesitant to use them in public waters. Christmas trees are great for this, see if you can borrow a canoe.

x2 on the xmas tree idea...and you dont have to have a boat to get them out there. just tie a couple of bricks to a SMALL tree and throw it as far as you can...
thats what we did in my g-dad's ~2acre pond.

just buy .5" pvc and make the porcepines yourself for around 5 bucks a piece and you could just chuck them because they are lighter than trees.

hm yeah slide a row boat in and take a small christmas tree and cement it to the bottom. Or make a rock pile in the pond
