thanks for the ideas. Unless the world is gonna end the lakes in GA to my understanding have never frozen before (my local area). Im not sure i would want to get a kayak. this pond is nasty looking, water clarity is around 1 ft. on a good clear day! also a small park pond which people comment to me "Theres fish in this pond?" and i smirk and say, a not many. Anyway, im trying to keep it small so i can just go and throw. what about these?

These are for ideas not to buy. I was also thinking about getting bricks and rope and tying them and throwing them out there in strategicly located spots

I like the bamboo-based cover in the second link. If you don't have bamboo available, weedy shrubs like privet or bush honeysuckle should do just as well. I'm sure you can find a neighbor or two who would be glad for you to cut and haul off some brush.

what is weed growth like does it get covered with scum in the summer?

I've only seen these in reservoirs, so things may be different in smaller waters. They sometimes get some weeds (Myriophyllum, Hydrilla, Ceratophyllum, etc.) growing among them, especially if in shallow water. They will get some algal growth, but nothing severe. If anything they are more effective for crappie when weedy.

it must be a deep pond, very little weeds. It is also murky only about 1-3ft visibility if you can see the bottom at all! more like chocolate milk color!

I'm guessing most lakes in GA don't freeze over.

There's no ice in the south. It's funny how sure you were about that plan too.

I would go to a big grocery store and ack if they would give you some plastic crates. My local H.E.B.s always have all different shaped crates and pallets just sitting around in the back that are great for fish habitat... and they are happy to give them away. We used them for my friends pond. The fish love them, hooks don't get caught, and best of all, with a good arm, you can toss them pretty far.

Haha, yeah.... didnt look at the location. thats just what we do here in IL

You might check with your local DNR unless it's a private pond. Usually there are laws regarding these things.

Xmas trees FTW I drive my truck around and load up on those things. The bass and bluegill love them.
