To the OP, you cant be serious! You actually thought chubs would be OK with a pickerel? Let me guess you have a hard time distinguishing between predator and prey...
So i went to the creek today and caught about 15 creek chubs 1-3 inches. i put them in with my redfin pickerel in my 60 gallon and the slaughtering begun... the first pic is what is left of the main school, and the second is of my fat pickerel. There is about 8-11 left. Oh, and does anyone know if my pickerel will work with a 3-5 inch redbreast sunfish? i caught a bunch today but i didnt know so i threw them back.View attachment 822779 View attachment 822780![]()
They do that because Carp/Koi eat their eggs in nature, so sunfish and bass will attack them on sight if they are nesting.yeah my LMB in my pond went a few years before beating my KOi to death that was 3 times his size.
Not really, it was most likey territorial behavior. In nature, they were being forced out by the carps and watching helplessly as the carps eating all eggs. They do that because Carp/Koi eat their eggs in nature, so sunfish and bass will attack them on sight if they are nesting.
