Creek Chub Community Gone Horribly Wrong!

Obvously there is a limit to my statement, there is an account on another forum of a guy keeping two perch the same size. The perch choked itself trying to swallow the other!

To the OP, you cant be serious! You actually thought chubs would be OK with a pickerel? Let me guess you have a hard time distinguishing between predator and prey...

Adult creek chub would be more than okay with pickerel (on their end anyways, pickerel might get stressed or even bullied if a male decides to get frisky). A large 12" bull creek chub could swallow an 8 " pickerel without a problem.

So i went to the creek today and caught about 15 creek chubs 1-3 inches. i put them in with my redfin pickerel in my 60 gallon and the slaughtering begun... the first pic is what is left of the main school, and the second is of my fat pickerel. There is about 8-11 left. Oh, and does anyone know if my pickerel will work with a 3-5 inch redbreast sunfish? i caught a bunch today but i didnt know so i threw them back.View attachment 822779 View attachment 822780:nilly::nilly::nilly::confused::confused::ROFL:

And a 6-7" Pickerel that is 2 to 6 times the size of the chubs(feeders).

I bet you can work with a lmb and a pickeral in a large enough tank.

They do that because Carp/Koi eat their eggs in nature, so sunfish and bass will attack them on sight if they are nesting.
Not really, it was most likey territorial behavior. In nature, they were being forced out by the carps and watching helplessly as the carps eating all eggs.
