Chub are great fish for a tank. They are really easy to take care of. They came from a local stream that gets pretty hot in the summer so I don't think a chiller is necessary. Is the stream where the redspots are spring fed? If not then just an unheated tank should emulate their natural conditions pretty well. I have 4 in a 30 gallon with a logperch. They are really voracious feeders and are really fun to watch eat when you put in some feeder minnows. Good luck with the redspots.
I have not been able to find out if the creek is spring fed....its a few miles from a friend of mines property....but he told me the creek get pretty warm in the summer so Im gonna guess no and go without a chiller.

Apparently creek chub can eat a 4" logperch just FYI for deciding on tankmates :(. Mine disappeared today and my largest chub looks pretty fat.

When I had mine, I kept them with green sunfish and red breasts and one yellow perch. The chubs held their own when it came to feeding time, but over time, the greens got real aggressive and started hunting them like a pack of wolves killing both of them. I never saw much aggression out of the chub so I would worry more about its tankmates than about it.
