Hello pike peeps

So my awesome lfs has ordered some crencichla and I want one! I have always been interested in crencichla but always had dwarfs! I read that most pike cichlids can be aggressive but to what extent? Like parachromis aggressive, snakehead or wolf fish, or just common SA/CA cichlid aggression?

Real questions will it work with my stock and will it attack bottom feeders? How hard is it to get them on pellets they are W/C? They will only be ~3" but I want to plan for the future

- Red Bay snook
-4 line pim (boss of the tank and dont take crap from anyone AKA whiskers)
-BGK (sits in his log all day and if you come in it you'll be in for a beating not joking)
-polypterus teugelsi

(there is also cichlasoma dimerus and a tin foil barb but not sure if i am keeping them)

Potential future stock also
-Chocolate cichlid in grow out
-maybe future clown loaches
-or a red severum

Let me know as i have no experience with pike cichlids. Share some pics and experience thank you!

It is more than likely a sp. Venezuela instead of a strigata. True strigata are hard to come by. Gonna be a big pike and will eat anything that will fit in its mouth. Mine wasn't overly agro, stood his ground but didn't look for fights.

Really?? Well I guess I'll have to wait and see what comes in. I hope it's true so it will stay slightly smaller :p. Okay that's the kind of aggression I want! I dont really want deaths! Especially with my bottom feeders.

If it is a vennie, it will get big pretty quickly.

Even the true strigata get fairly large. Great looking pike and pretty hard to find. I kept true strigata in the past. Bought them at 5". With in the first year they were 12". During the second year they got to about 14" when I decide to sell them.

I also kept Vennie before. Bought them at 9-10". During the next year I owned them the shot up to 15" fairly quick. Nice pike but fairly common and is probably what you LFS is getting in.

Well I hope it's one! It's Spencer jack he's really the local importer then a fish store. 80% of his stuff is wild caught and is usually correctly I'd if not it is corrected within the week. They are coming in pretty small approx 3" would you be able to I'd then appart? But I'd be happy with either. But do you know about the compatibility with my stock?

The strigata should have a humeral blotch right behind the pectoral fins. I think it will show at that size but could be wrong. Fingers crossed it is a true strigata, I would love to find one. I wouldn't doubt Spencer on this, but the person who is selling them to him might have it wrong.

I think you should be alright with that stock. I have had my vennies in with cichlids with no problems. I have lents and marms in with an ornate right now and it doesn't seem to be an issue.

That's some good news! Thank you! I hope so too as they look a little cooler if I've been looking at the right pictures but either way it would be cool. I have always wanted a larger pike and want to try them out ! They should be in any day so fingers crossed!
