Brian,
Yeah the C. minuano are fairly similar (less color to lose though!). Sure, I have a pair of celidos with Gymnogeophagus balzanii in a different tank, they get along fine.
Cheers,
Ed

Ed,
That's really great! You must have quite the celido collection!! LOL
I have to try and mirror this experiment. It's just too damn cool!!

Thats amazing Ed!!! Love it!!! Their colors are just dynamic, and they still look amazing even during the cool down period.

How is their aggression as they start to warm up again? Much squabbles? Or everything just stay the way it is just get more of an appetite?

Thanks! Yes, they get a little more feisty as the temperature increases, but this is really the first time that I feel the chases of a pair trying to breed are good.... so maybe it will be a war zone this time LOL. I think their appetite stays normal down to about 65º and is notably less at 60º (though they still come up and beg energetically).

Ed,
Any updates on your end? Has your tank dropped to 60F, yet??
I have some news for you as of 11:54 AM today ;)
Cheers,

Hi Brian,

The temp has been hovering between 60-62º. The females look the same, but the males color has developed a lot and more interestingly, he's being more aggressive LOL. I think I can keep the temperature around 60º until the end of February, then I'll take the S. lima out and wait for the tank to start warming up (and cross my fingers!).

I'm looking forward to your news!

Ed,
That all sounds great. Have you ever brought back any Charax spp. or Hoplosternum littorale from Uruguay? I wonder how the Charax would do as a dither for the celidos. Hoplo cats are just awesome in general. LOL!!

Oh, check your PM :D

Talk soon,

Looking good, Ed!

What is feeding like at the lower temps? What is their natural diet? Mine were as happy eating pellets as worms or live fish.

I'd use some Chanchitos or Acaras as dithers. Charax would likely get chomped.

Matt

Thanks Matt!

They have a reduced but good appetite at 60º. I feed them less than normal.

Smaller fish like Cyanocharax, Aphyocharax or juvenile Gymnogeophagus, but I don't think they eat any of the larger tetra like Astyanax or Charax. At least in the wild, I suppose in a glass box they might be fair game.

Same with mine, they go crazy for vegi-flakes :)

Hi MTN PIKE,

Not too much has changed. The temperature is up to about 69º and their coloration is slowly starting to come back. I've increased their feeding back to normal. Hopefully in a few more weeks the pair will re-form.
