i love these three genus mixed together. The look of a Crenicichla, mixed with a Cichla and a larger eartheater species, works well. I highly recommend them.
Stick to less robust Lugubris types or get acutirostris types to minimize the risk of the pikes getting overly aggressive...smaller lugubris species like tapajos 1 and 2 are better than the beefier lenticulata or marmorata...while also being large enough not to fall prey to Cichla. Stick to smaller Cichla species and the larger Geophagus species. The three groups will likely ignore each other.
Both my setups feature this combo.
280 The Crenicichla Multispinosa is finally starting to develop its adult colors. They match well with the Geophagus Sveni and the juvenile Cichla Kelberi.
535 This tank was just set up a couple weeks ago. Four month total project length. Really excited to see these guys grow. This tank houses the Crenicichla Zebrina with Cichla Orinocensis, Cichla Intermedia, and Geophagus Altifrons. Lots of activity in this tank. I’ll have to thin these down as They grow.
