Crenicichla gaucho

those are beautiful. They don't look anything like a crenicichla Scotti to me. Interesting patterning. Did you just get 2? They may not become an established pair.

Not to say that this always works, but adding a fish that will be dominate over them can promote strong pairing behavior. Many times in the past, I have placed fish I want to pair up, with a more aggressive tank-mate. They often feel the need to pair up for survival. Do this at your own risk of course, but a suggestion.

Here's some wild scotti we caught in Uruguay. Gaucho is considered a sister species

I only ordered two, I am taking a chance there...

These are from Oliver.

The danios were added as target fish, to give the pikes something to turn their attention/aggression towards and help build/strengthen a pair bond. I was quite surprised at how well they worked as dither fish, the pikes seemed instantly more comfortable with their new surroundings.

I had not thought of adding aggressive fish to 'force' a pair bond, but I think that would be a very reasonable option before trying to acquire more, thanks for the tip!

Someone mentioned eyes?
