Hi Ray, thanks. Last year, as you know, we did mostly the north (Rio Cuareim, Bella Union, Villa Constitucion, Rio Cuaro) and some of the central (Rio Yi) and south (Paso Pache and Aguas Blancas). This year we did mostly the east (Arroyo Valentin, Arroyo las Pavas (Valentines), Velazquez, Arroyo Camponero Grande (Minas), and the south (Arroyo Sarandi and Aguas Blancas). We were originally scheduled to do Ansina and Rio Tacuarembo and Rio Yi, but flooding prevented going to those locations. Scott Arney brought back the huge C. scottii pair, I brought back two smaller pairs, the saxatilis pair, and two pairs of C. punctata "blue 33" and some juveniles, and of course some Gymnogeophagus and Australoheros. I'd like to keep a pair of each pike to try and breed them.

I have to go in late November/early December next time! It was cool to see all of the juvie fish, but, I would have preferred to see the adults in the process of spawning/brooding, for the pikes and all the other cichlids. Good luck with spawning, I have a reverse trio of Saxatillis from Cuariem (can't remember for sure) and what appears to be two pairs of Scotti that I am working with in large tanks now. I would love to hear more about your experiences, I assume that you brought back adult (sexed) pairs of the Scottii and Punctata.

Get some in tank shot up MAN!

Ray

Thanks for sharing!! Are pikes nice fighters for their size??

they look great. i cant wait to see my punctata get that large. any good way of sexing that you can tell from the ones you got?

Ray... Yes, I brought back sexed (vented) C. scottii and C. punctata, certainly not mated pairs like with the saxatilis, but two males and two females. The scottii and punctata I brought back are 5-7 inches TL, with the females being larger. The female saxatilis is about 6" and the male 7" TL. I don't have any great in-tank shots, the scottii and punctata are in QT in a 150g vat. But here are a few shots of the saxatilis pair in QT...

After QT, I want the saxatilis in a tank by themselves, a pair of scottii and punctata together in a tank, and a celidochilus tank.

robmcd... I am not a fisherman, so I'm not sure I'm the best to judge their fighting, but to me, they don't seem to fight that much. Although, most of the ones I caught on hook and line where small-medium (5-8"). All the big ones I caught with the cast net. The biggest were 12"+ C. punctata.

HiImSean... The females have pink in their dorsal, like here...

But with fish that aren't breeding, the best way is to vent them. Overall, I think most of the largest punctata we caught tended to be females.

WOW...GREAT SHOTS

Peanut_Power... Yep, I went with him and Ken last year as well. I hope they settle in and get comfortable enough to breed.

I moved the cf. saxatilis into their real tank a few days ago...
