My sveni just died.. What could be the cause of his death?
The other fish in the tank that could do harm are:
- afer knifefish (mouth seems to small to do damage)
-bullheads (they are pretty friendly in my opinion)
-polypterus orni. (could be the cause maybe by doing a crocodile death roll, but i have never seen him do a death roll...)

I might rehome the orni. I think he did it. And if he could kill this big guy my other fish are potantional targets.

That's unfortunate, sorry for your loss. He doesn't look damaged, so I don't think tankmates did it nor does it look like he hurt himself on decor. His stomach is pretty large, but that could just be from a large meal (or a disease) It could have been anything from some unknown disease, parasites, he may have eaten something bad, or maybe he was just old and it was his time to go. It almost certainly isn't the polypterus because that fish has teeth, if he went after the sveni the sveni would be torn up.

Agree belly is a little swollen and the red near the anus/urogenital. Don’t think it’s a normal red coloring especially after dying.

the first pic shows some signes of damage on the head. Might be the cause but doesnt seem to serious

that makes me think he ate something bad or he had a parasite/disease
I fed him tilapia the day before he died. So thats explains the big belly. Anus looks different then normal but couldnt that just be from dying?

Don’t think it’s from dying. Septicemia can have the redness on body and fins. Bloat can have a similar look too.

I got no idea what that is. Is there a chance that my other fish are in danger?
I have some experience with bloat. But it doesnt seem like bloat. He was laying on the ground and not floating. Had no problems with swimming yesterday. It all hapened in one night i think.

could have slammed its head into the top of the tank real hard if he got spooked at night by one of the nocturnal fish, and then died immediately from the trauma.
