Anyone ever kept one of these, or have any info on them. I believe I picked one of them up today for $12 labeled as a Wallace Pike, and when I asked was told it was a dwarf pike, with the scientific name of crenicichla wallacei. I can't find info on them anywhere. Thanks.

anyone?

:ROFL:If they got that large, I would be VERY surprised.

One thing that might help with your search is the spelling. ;) Try using Crenicichla wallaci instead and see what your results come up with. :)

Or you could just read this:
Dwarf Pike Info

Its a pretty general account of the dwarf pike, and has quite a good bit of information. Plus its a good read. :)

Generally though, dwarfs are super easy to keep, considering that they stay below the 5" range. If they get close to that, they are really eating some good food. LoL

Don't be fooled by their small size though, they are still Crenicichla at heart, and will stand up for themselves if pushed. :headbang2

Like most pikes, they are gluttons as well, perhaps even more so actually. I've got mine eating pellets, flake, blood worms, mysis, and the occasional krill that they rip to pieces.

They really are great fish, and are definitely awesome to keep. If you getta chance, be sure to post up some pictures!! Would love to see your new pike! :)

Thanks a million, great info. Question: Does anyone have a pic of a Crenicichla Wallaci? All of the pics that I see on google don't look like what I have. I will post pics as soon as I figure out where the wife put the charger. Mine is green, with black lateral lines, and red on the tip of the dorsal fin.

Hmmm...almost sounds like Crenicichla compressiceps.

Indeed get some pictures, as that will tell us a whole lot more than a description, AND we can drool over them then! :)

They look fairly similar to the Crenicichla notopthalmus that are currently in the hobby. I'm not an expert on dwarfs, but my buddy darth pike is the man! :) According to him, wallaci won't have the extended dorsals quite the same as notos, and the females dorsal ocelli will be rimmed in a more orangish color, rather than a red color as it is in notos.

Here are a few crummy pictures of my notos just to give you a little reference.
