Ill consider trying silicone on the underside of the leaves to protect them.

My females are healthy and gained two grams in the last week, so i dont want to risk their health.

Originally i thought about live but was worried that lights bright enough to grow them would heat the viv too much.

What recommendationscan you give me on live plants and lighting?

I have exo terra lights, holds two 26 watt max screw in bulbs.

I bought 23watt cfs, but they were heating the tank too much so i dropped it to 10watt cf bulbs.

Those bulbs are more than enough to keep plants alive. In fact, you might want to tone them down to the 13 watt bulbs in the future. I have those Exo Terra light fixtures on 4 of my planted setups and they work pretty well. Plus like Oz said they should kick off enough heat that you really don't need to use a heater for that tank.

Some good plant choices that have worked for me are Hoya (wax plant), Pothos, Lemon Fern, Elk Horn Fern, Anthurium, ZZ Plant, Dracaena, Snake Plant, Spathiphyllum and various types of epiphytes (air plants).

So i swapped the bulbs for the 13 watt cfs, but they still heated the tank to 78F so I shut them off. May just have to mod them with LEDs.

Do you think running a fan would help?

How long are you leaving the lights on and where are you taking the readings? That temp isn't too bad if it's at the top of the tank near the lights. Take a reading from the bottom and see what it is after the lights have been on for a few hours.

If it comes to it you can use a small fan like a computer fan or you can use a fish tank air pump and just run a hose into the tank to move the air around.
 
I saw the temp increase within 10 minutes of turning on the lights, but the low temp isnt ambient, its from the ac kicking on.

I places the probes half way down the tank, directly unfer the lights covered by olastic plants, this is where the geckos sleep.

Air flow might help and also make sure that the vents are open. As long as the tank has a spot in the low 70's for the geckos to rest near during the day when the lights are on they'll do just fine.
 
I decided to just buy the 18" double bright LEDs from marineland.

The o e i have sits perfectly on the tank and looks awesome. I can use the exo lights in the winter time when the tank will need to be warmed.
