What species are you talking about? You have a crested or are you talking about your leopard gecko?

Yup got my threads crossed, thought this was the one with the kid with leopard geckos.

With cresteds you want to have a substrate to keep the viv very humid.

I have to spray mine well twice a day.

A 50% humidity level for a leopard gecko is high. You really shouldn't go past 40% for them. High humidity levels can promote respiratory infections. Just FYI. :)

I'm pming you, could use some more info :)

Thanks for the heads up btw, I'm going to start using the heat lamp over the tank now to drop the humidity.

Nope, the summer is barely starting to end here in SoCal, so for a long time the temps held steady at 90F, then dropped to 85F for the past month. (even at night), so any heat source would've made it way too hot for my herps.

My problem was trying to cool things off with fans, moist hides, etc...

Temps started to drop down to 80F at the hottest part of the day, so now I can start creating a gradient of 80 to 85F.

I'm actually looking to buy a small AC unit for next years summer, now that temps are cooling, hopefully I can find someone in need of some extra cash :D

What's the maintenance like if you go that route? How often do you have to replace the soil, of do you have to do that at all?

i dont replace soil unless renovatine their poo jut goes to the roots and i use like a little rake to churn the soil and their you have it plant food

i used bed a beast mixed with peat moss and it holds moisture pretty well
