i got my first little beardie yesterday
and i threw in about a dozen pinhead crickets
he ate a bunch buit i have bark so some of them hid
i woke up this morning played a little call of duty and i noticed theyre was a cricket on the wall
this was a bigger one that got mixed in with the pin heads
so im guessing it can escape easier
but its still a cricket
and if my mom would have seen it its back to the store for the beardie
the top for the cage isnt thick enough
so how could i prevent this from happening again
HELP
 
get a new top.. or put something on the top few inches of the cage so the crickets cant climb out.. your always going to have one or two get away..
 
First of you soluldnt be trowing a dozen crickets to a beardy cage specialy a baby one.:grinno: The crickets can hide and then during the nigth they can literaly munch on your prized lizard. I ve seen many lizards losing toes and tail tips for this:WHOA:. And dont just buy the crickets and feed them to your lizard. Empty bellied crickets are a poor food choice and because they are so rich in fosforus they can lead to metabolic bone disease. First you must make food avaible for the crickets, so that they eat and then you can feed them to your lizard. Feed them stuff like fish flakes,carrots and leafy greens. Put only small quantities and change it daily. And just before you feed your beardy you must put the crickets you intend to feed in a small bag whit a small porcion of reptile suplements(get a good one like reptivite from zoomed) and literaly shake them. When your don the crickets should have suplements all over them.Do this a few times a week. Now they are ready to "meet there doom"(ha ha ha ha:ROFL:) As for feeding I recomend that you feed your beardy in a separate comtainer and trow in a cricket at a time. Remenbar that a few feedings a day are bether than one large feeding. I also recomend that you start your beardy day by feeding him only leafy vegies: turnip,mustard and collard greens,etc, and then feeding him insects.This is one way to get him used to eat veggies.Good luck
 
pinheads to a baby bearded? your joking right? 2 week olds or larger would be better and you wouldnt need to get as much. rule of thumb is feed them prey items no longer then the space between their eyes

im now feeding him small crickets
but i got him when he was about 3 weeks or so

the top is closed its just the wire is sorta spaced out
i havent really seen any come out so its all good now
