my fish tank is giving out little bits of shock. i tried feeding them just right now. and as i was sticking my hand in the water to clean the wall of the tank. i keep getting zapped. since the fish was splashing water onto the heater, i thought it was the heater so i unplugged it. that fixed it but i decided to plug it back in and i still got some small amount of voltage zapping me. as i touch the output water of my Aquaclear 50 i keep getting very small voltage to my fingers.

so i decided to unplug both. i still have my eheim ecco 2234 running. need help is my aquaclear 50 and stealth heater messed up?

dont want to lose any of my fish

May be a silly question but do you have small cuts on your finger or a sore ? as when i have cuts or grazes or too short finger nails i get what feels like small shocks from water in the tanks. Its just the first touch then when hand in its ok i think its just the chemicals in water or may be slight static electricity . but it only happens when on open skin with me . Just an idea dont know if anyone agrees
either that or go straight out and buy new bits for tank if dangerous

i dont have a cut on my fingers. i barely touch the water with my fingers and it kept shocking me everytime i removed my finger from the water and try and retouch the water.

i just tried putting my finger in the water and the water is just fine. weird but should i be worried.

Thanks

Did you try putting the heater back in? Sounds like the aqua clear was to blame if it went away after removing it. This isn't out of the ordinary and your fish should be fine. Just remove whatever is causing the shock.

hmm, short circuit somewhere between the AC 50 or the heater.. you heater is submersible right? cause if it not, they have something on top of the heater that say min n max water line.. but if it submersible then your fine.. i remmeber one of my heater was non submersible n i put it all the way down n i stuck my hand in and it shockked me.

Its the small voltage bit that confuses me , as here in UK you know when you have had the sweet 240v justice and unless i get the hard cold pain of 240v i laugh it off and keep it plugged in

I'm a sheet metal worker, and if I get a small metal splinter invisible to the eye, I've gotten the same thing, I stick the other hand in, and nothing.
