Critique my intake plumbing

I am not reccomending the full siphon insert. In my setup, algea and moss plugs up any strainer cap on the full siphon. So I removed it. Which allowed an occasional fish jam inside the tube. That reduced into a bottle neck.
It is now a strait shot into the sump. The flow insert is tuned, to the flow. Custom diameter to match the pump, pvc pipe, epoxy and drilled to size.
About once a year, a fish goes over wier. Into the full suction. It takes about 10 seconds to remove the insert, and reinstall. It once took, about 2 hours, and a trip to the hardware store. Sawing pvc, and removing a bulk head fitting from a full tank behind the wier.

If a "DCP Pump" has that fine control over output, then yes.

I have a "slice gate valve" like this...

I really wish I had a gate valve with a threaded adjustment so I could easily do very fine adjustments to it.

I have DC pumps, but I still think gate valve allows for better adjustments. It's not critical to have but I'd suggest if anyone has the option to add if just starting to plumb.
