Lake Placid waiting to happen :(

Hey, I joined the club earlier today; I have one female American alligator hatchling.

I want a female gator so bad! what size room you plan on giving her when she gets older?

I want a female gator so bad! what size room you plan on giving her when she gets older?

I haven't calculated out the specifics yet. I want to wait and see what her growth rate looks like for the next 2-3 years before I do that.

The enclosure that I'll be building for her soon will be 4' x 8' x 4' and will last her until she hits about 30" or so based on the formula from the "Housing" section this website (it's a really detailed guide, by the way). After she gets to be 24" (I'm thinking that will be another 12-18 months based on the average captive female gator growth rates), I'll start planning the next enclosure which will house her for either another few years or the rest of her life, depending on what her growth is looking like (should slow way down around age five when she starts to focus on reproduction rather than growth).

Please keep in mind that the formula that I'm using is based off of the German required minimums for a pair of crocs, so the enclosure(s) will be more than big enough for her for sure; apparently there supposedly is a law over there regarding minimum croc enclosure sizes so this seemed like a good start since those requirements are larger than the absolute minimums mentioned on that website. By the way, the requirements are a land area that is 3(SVL) by 4(SVL) and a water area that is 4(SVL) by 5(SVL) by 0.3 SVL with SVL = Snout to Vent Length e.g. roughly half the total length of the croc. You can see why I'm going with two-tiered enclosures rather than one-tiered enclosures; I'd need much more space in order to have just a massive layout rather than a condensed layout with the same amount of space.

Appears time for a bump :D
