He was the first (and only) to actually produce them commercially. He called them Crocodile gars after the trait of crocodiles having a longer narrower snout than Alligators. These hybrids have a Longer narrower snout so the name fits very well.
Now that you have been educated about the orgin of the name and what the "species group" is. Please either add something useful to the discussion of these fish or move on to another group of people to annoy.
