They are also semi aquatic and prefer cooler temps
semi aquatic? do they bask in water or are like newts and can hold their breathes for a long period of time?

give them a water area to swim in and a land area to bask in. I would do the ration 60 % land 40% water. This can be accomplished by putting a glass divider in the tank and silicone it so to make those ratios.

how deep should the water be though? like just enough for them to stick their heads out while sitting? or completely submerged?

I dont know about a pair in a 10,I would say no way.Ive held a few, they can be very fast,if you live in a cooler climate then you wont have temp troubles. In my town its hard to keep temps low in summer.I too love them, but they are no leo and you want everything just right.Good water quality, lots of tall and low hides.I also hear very often that they stress from too much handeling but its hear say.Check their diet, and I want to say they get larger than you may think.Just do lots of research first.I know the temps kept me from getting them but I thought their was something else too, cant remember.
