Crocodilians in Aquaria

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Trust me. The really cool feeding thing is not what your thinking it will be. Go to some reptile zoo when they feed the gators if you wanna see that. Thats why my buddy got one, he would catch big local fish and put em in the water w/ the caiman and it would just take em whole. Then he got bit when cleaning the tank. Note most people are getting bit while cleaning the tank, sticking some automatic anything in there is not going to keep it clean.

acting immature already, u shuldnt keep em, imo

Immature? I'm just trying to find a way around sticking my hands in the tank, thats all. I wasnt going, "fine im just gunna get it anyway" or "you guys are bullies im not gonna listen to you".

Ok. Im not going to treat you like a child, And I will not tell you what to do. But I will say that If you get a croc, there will be times when you need to put your hands in the tank, and there will be times when you have to get hands on with the animal. There is simply no way to get around that. And when working with these animals you will get bit. Its not a matter of if, but when. Keeping these animals is a huge responsibility, and if you do not want to dedicate your life to cleaning its cage, feeding it copious amounts of food (which will make that $300 price up front look like pocket change), giving it a huge enclosure, and get bitten, I would strongly suggest not getting this animal. There are other animals that would be a nice pet, without needing the enormous amount of time consuming care that a croc does.

I just want a cool reptilian with a "wow" factor

And that is the exact wrong reason to ever buy anything.

Well obviously i would look into it. Like i looked into this.

Honestly, a bearded dragon has a wow factor. When someone comes over to see your animal, what "wow's" people is what you know about them. You talking about your animal and showing vast interest and knowledge is more important then anyone just staring at a lizard inside a tank.

True. Well thanks for the help guys, and i will definetly not get a crocodilian.

Chameleons are good for that. Since handling them isnt really kosher (due to delicateness) dont get one if you want something that can be handled. Feeding them is fun too, my buddy had a 3 horned big chameleon (last time i saw it it was 12 inches from nose to start of tail) it may be a jacksons, we would dump a bunch of crickets and superworms and the thing wouldnt even move from whereever it was, just turn towards the food bowl and start slinging that giant tounge. Really wild to watch, and he would change backgrounds and substrate hue to make him change color

Or a small specie of monitor lizard. They are super intelligent and act like dogs essentially. My Buddy's would recognize its name, and come out and see what's going on. He would leave the lid open, and he got him (somehow, don't really remember his methods) to the point where he wouldn't leave the cage w/o being called. It was awesome
