Will mbuna cross breed or only breed within their species? Also, at what age/size do they start to breed?

yes they will cross breed out very easy. try to have the same species in there for them to breed with their own kind. they say to have 1 male per ever 3-4 females in mbuna tanks.

also is flashing a sign of wanting to breed or no?

twitching? yes this can be a sign of possible breeding about to happen. or it can be a sign of dominance.

i dont know who ismale or female and as of now there are 6 diff cichlids in there... diff species.... bumble bee being my favorite!

my cichlids, especially my established breeding pair of jewel's mature constantly swim along and smack the gravel in a whip like motion. as ive seen it seems to induce breeding a lil faster as she usually pops the old egg laying pip out soon after, but she hasnt layed yet. i think due to lack of a flat rock or surface or though i do have a plate in there now!

Males are striped with six to seven black stripes, And have 3-4 egg spots on the anal fin. Female are not striped, and are usually lighter in color than males [mbuna].

this info is entirely off key. there are many different species of mbuna out there.

also i have seen plenty of females with egg spots.
