Well I added some holes to her divider and she finally took the first step and crossed over, they swam together a little and nipped at each other some. Finally after about 5 min he started wacking her with his tail (I'm assuming it's a dominance thing since she hasn't been on his side for a very long time). Then she swam back to her side.

So keep your fingers crossed for me It's a good sign. Usually he goes for blood after any fish the instance they are in his tank.

Well she's back on his side again. Hopefully I won't wake up tomorrow to a dead female Dovii.. he is BRUTAL.

With a very aggressive male Dovii how do I tell when he is just showing dominance? I'm assuming by the fact she is still alive??

You can put the tail slapping down to courting, no malice there. She'll dart off to the safety of the divider when he get's to rough.
