crows

I had a weird experience with crows while camping a few years ago. There was an obviously very old crow that was hanging around our campsite. He couldn't fly and just sort of hopped around the bushes. The strange thing was that 3 other crows were cawing like mad the whole time, like they didn't want to leave their friend. It was kind of spooky, to tell the truth.

As to keeping them as a pet, I think it would be more rewarding to try and tame some wild ones. A lawn chair, a bag of croutons, and a lot of time is probably all it would take!

its illegal to keep a crow as a pet? you sure? my mom had a crow when she was in hs. it learned to talk. could say their names. would mimic animals. only real trouble it caused was that it would follow them to school and disrupt classes. if you get a pet crow i am sure you should feed it better and healthier things then dead animals.

That would depend on where you live here in Pennsylvania. I live out in the country for the most part and the crows here are very wary. Probably from hunting. But if you go a few miles east from where I live you come to our state capital of Harrisburg. The National Geographic Channel did a special on the urban roosting crow population there. The trees at night are absolutely covered in crows, some a few feet above your head. After the sun goes down they're quite, but when you walk under the trees in town you can here them fluttering around. It's really creepy to hear and see. Not to mention they crap all over everything and I mean everything under those trees. They even have speakers on the roofs of buildings playing hawk screeches to scare the crows but they could care less about it. Now if you want to get close to wild crows, that's the place!

That sounds like a mess! Worse than pigeons, almost.

We get a lot of crows around our house in the summer, mostly stealing chicken food and scraps we throw out. They are pretty wary, I'm sure it would take a lot more patience than I have to tame one!

I've heard that Minah Birds can make pretty good pets.

Did it work? :D If so I'm going to call you Ace Ventura!

I didn't tell you that they got the idea for Ace Ventura when the writer walked by me and saw me yelling out Ventura, as my raven came down to my side. :)

I use to raise mallard ducks. Sometimes the crows would come over to my open topped pen and try to snatch newly hatched baby ducklings. Pairs of crows would sometimes work as a team, one would distract the mother duck and the other would try to grab a baby. I didn’t put up with this. Probably one of the reasons they're now wary is because I chased them off with my pellet gun. :D

Mynahs are awesome pets, they're among the best talkers out there. European starlings and Mynahs are in the same family.
