Cruelty to animals

stop the cruelty, its all relative, some would say its cruel to keep fish in a tank,

i have gone over and over in my head whether I should be keeping fish...
I am therefore selective over the fish I can keep, and keep pretty much only captive bred fish, and any that aren't are WC founders for breeding projects/strengthening bloodlines.

trust me i understand im just stating that before anyone goes on ranting about someone else's fish keeping they need to realize we are all guilty of some form of cruelty towards our fish, whether it's tank size, food choices, "forced breeding" etc. because the bottom line is everyone of our pets belong in the wild enjoying the freedoms of life. Just because you can prolong the lifespan of an animal doesn't mean your doing the animal a favor. just by being placed in ''our aquariums" the fish no longer have the option of traveling greater than a distance of 6 feet, choosing it's mate except for the ones we provide, and hunting for prey are some quick examples.

I'll leave with this thaught i hope it clarify's my point: Back in the 1600's a Virginia man was praised for his treatment of his slaves, he was said to be a "GOOD MAN'' because he didn't keep his slaves in chains when they visited the towns market.

Hard to tell when it dies, but you could agrue the mouse didn't live too long after the gar got ahold of it. Would you guys consider this cruel or not?

Honest question, trying to see where you guys are coming from a little bit better.

I believe we will never know the true answer to this because of course the fish and other animals cannot communicate what they like better.. but i am sure if they do not know the difference to compare the two{freedom vs. captivity} then they are probably happy in both situations doing what they do best.. as far as your example of the man with slaves.. maybe those slaves were happy to be with the good man.. back in those days even though no one should have the right to make anyone a slave alot of the slaves did live a better life..with someone who provided for them.. Freedom is a wonderful thing.. and every human being should be free.. and anyone who loses their freedom is a person in my eyes that has lost it all.. but some people and things need some help surviving in a world that can sometimes be cruel..

At almost 1 minute the mouse is in the gars mouth but still alive as I see tail movement(not from water movement) and leg movement.. At the end of the movie the gar doesn't even have it down yet. It's basically trying to figure a way to get it down the whole movie.

Cruel? IMO yes. And the guy shooting the video is an idiot for thinking his fish is monster when it took so long and still couldn't get it down.

I think the main argument is using appropriate sized feeders if you have to(something that can be gulped in seconds), and not using "recreating natural habitat" or similar exscuse just because you like feeding grusome stuff, only enjoy when your fish eat and don't mind watching things suffer.

And I think that's why you differ from so many here. Some people see a fish as ornamental/possible dinner and others see it as a pet with the same rights and should receive the same treatment as a cat/dog/rabbit/etc.

I would say everything that lives feel pain of some degree.. otherwise they would not have the instinct to protect themselves.. they feel stress.. and they lose their color and won't eat, so i also think they have more feelings in general then we give them credit for..

I don't make my yard for my dog look more like germany in the 1800's simply because I have a great dane and have a main responsibility to "simulate natural enviroment"
