I wondered about the kit. 5 is an awfully odd number for regular tapwater without the your nitrates being through the roof or your tapwater being nearly pure.
Change your nitrate kit too, because you should be seeing some nitrates unless you have a heavily planted tank or run some kind of media. Though, perhaps doing several big water changes trying to fix your pH brought it down t practically unregisterable levels.
