My perfectly healthy Motor that I've had for two years was belly up this morning. I ddin't get a chance to check the water parameters but the tank has never had any problems. All the other fish in the tank were fine. The one thing I noticed was that the anus of the ray was protruding and seemed to be "ripped" open. There were no other visible sores or deth curl. The ray ate voraciously before I went to bed. What could have happened?

sorry for the loss sescil. Can you take a pic of the motoro? Also, try to check the water parameters as a big chunk of ray deaths are usually associated with water quality .

I planned on checking the water parameters tonight. The water parameters are checked weekly and I have never had a problem with Ammonia, PH, Nitrate or Nitrite. The tank is 180 gallons and gets 1 or 2 25% waterchanges a week. The last waterchange was done on Wednesday evening. I add Prime and PH 7 buffer to the tap water. Is it possible there was a problem with my tap water that dy? The other inhabitants include a 10 inch Jardini Aro, 2 6 inch Cichla Temensis and an 8 inch Brachyplatystoma Juruense. I know that the Jardidni could get nasty, but I have never witnessed any agression from the Jardini or any of the fish in the tank. Like I mentioned, there were no visible sores or torn fins on the ray. The only "weird" thing I could see was the torn anus ...

Sorry to hear that. City water can vary with the day. Let us know what you find. Can you get (or did you get) a picture of the tear you mentioned?

That really sucks. Sorry for the loss.

i am not 100% sure but i am thinking a infection of some kind , but what really comes to mind is some sort of internal parasite... just weird the anus ans all

i am sorry bro for ur loss

Sorry bro! Looks like it was an internal problem.

Were there any fake plants in the tank that the ray could of munched on? Plastic plants would block up a ray in a hurry.

Do you feed it Live Foods that could of been contaminated?
