Similar things occur here in Panama,
in rivers west of the Mamoni, Andinoacara are often the only cichlid I catch,

Go futher east and often Darienheros are coaught.

from the Mamoni and eastward Darienheros, and Andinoacara dominate, but usually in separate flow rate situations,
and occasionally I find Isthmoheros interspersed, in the widest riverine courses.

Normally only 1 or 2 cichlids per river are found, yet all the while, non-cichlids randomly occur en masse east to west, and on both side of the mountains.

especially tetras

It took me 5 years of collecting to find 1 Geophagus, and the same day it was caught ony Darienheros were found with it, in the same stream.

Kind of makes one wonder about the how, combining cichlids in our tanks should be done.
