I did expect it but a 3" fish should be fully capable of avoiding it IMO. The only thing I can think of is that the GT got tired of his continuous flaring and challenges.

balton may be rigth also. but a 3in fish may or may not have been just that strong to swim against 400-500gph (that is quite fast!)

or it could be a combination of both!

Last night i sat in the recliner next to the tank and the GT swam over to look at me. He swam right under the powerhead and sat there. His tail got sucked up a little and he just swam away from it like nothing happened. Got away VERY easily. So IMO the GT must have hurt the Salvini severely enough that he got sucked in.

Thanks to all for the responses, this forum Rocks compared to others I've been to where you have to wait a couple days for 2-3 replies.:D

Anyway, I Nixed the idea of another Salvini even tho I love the little suckers. So, I put the JD in last night and the GT got PISSED! He's less than 1/2 the JD's size and stood right up to him. he got pushed around eventually but gave it his all for a solid 10 minutes or so, wiggling and displaying his *** off side by side with the JD.

What HEART for such a small fish!!! I have a lot more respect for the species now. I actually felt kinda proud...like my kid stood up to the school bully or something HA!

took these over the weekend before the fatality. My first try at putting pics in here so bear with me. In the full tank shot the JD is under the javafern on the right and the GT is on the far left. What do you think?

Wow, that salvini was gorgeous, sorry for your loss. Tank setup looks good to me!

Tanks!! hahahaha No really, Thanks. The compliments are nice, worked hard on it.

I got the plants last night and am having trouble attaching the java fern. Any Tips? I just tried to stick it into the cracks and stuff, they hold it pretty well but not great.

The Anubias Barteri in the bottom right corner is attached to the driftwood. Bought it that way and when I looked at it, they had drilled a hole first then stuck it in there. The roots from the rhizome go right through and out the bottom. Should I drill the other pieces to get the other plants to attach the same way?

The Anubias nana will spread through the substrate if possible wont it?

Use thin black string to attach to driftwood, then it won't show up very easily. Drilling a hole is another option. Here in Florida, the plant farmers use soddering iron wire (I don't know if I spelled that right) because it is cheap and easy to bend.

Hmmm soldering wire huh? interesting. I thought solder had lead and zinc in it. Will that mess the water/fish up?

I don't know if it will or not, but if you buy plants from Florida, then they have been exposed to it. The plants from Florida mostly come from one or two farms and I know that they use it.
