CST and Fish

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I have a few mollies in mine and they are the only fish that not get attacked LOL, you might luck out with guppies, mine have breed a few times.

Fish that fight back are out of the question. They'll never win a match with a snapper. Now fish that are active and quick might have a chance. How big is your setup? I've had pretty good luck Giant Danios. They're very quick and constantly swimming. Unless your turtle can corner them they probably stand the best chance out all the species mentioned.

Hes in a 20 now but I'm upgarding him to a 40 I believe it is. Hes not much of an active hunter, he perfers the "bury himself and wait for it to come to you" style but hes fails at that to so I guess a fast fish would be in the clear.

Haha, my AST is the same way, but he is getting better.

lol. Well atleast your guy has the little tounge action going on. Mine thinks hes a cat or something and slowly creeps up on the fish once they get near him but the fish always she him coming and slowy move just out of his reach and leave him baffeled and confused. Its pretty sad to watch honestly lol

too be honest, his tongue is so small at his size that it really doesn't help, instead he sits there with his mouth open and when one gets close enough he lunges at it.

Firstly, I think you should make sure your filter can settle the total bioload, turtles are quite the crap producers. And I suppose fast and agile fish could survive with the occasional casualty, with snapping turtles, it is hardly nip, it is snap, hence the name in a sense.

Well I don't think the bioload will be to bad. I've heard snappers are incredibly messy but he is nothing compared to my painteds and RES. You change their water and with in a day or two it starts getting cloudy. His water on the other hand I've never had a problem with, waters always crystal clear, all the chemicals are ok, and no algea growth or anything. I just change about 1/3 of the water every 3weeks and spot clean when I see feces. All the left over food the feeder fish and crayfish get. I know changing a tank and adding more animals into the mix can change everything though.

I have a Big AST with 3 Big Oscars he leaves them alone. Not even missing fins. I always keep shinners in the tank the AST pics them off.
