Im first of all sry if this is the wrong forum thread, did it to the best of my ability..but are ctenopoma really as aggressive as they say? I want one for my 55G which isnt even really stocked but my so far stock is gonna be (if you wanted to know)

x1 Black Ghost Knife
x1/2 Jaguar Catfish

then maybe these cichlids in pairs still deciding though since im limited.

x2 Rainbow Cichlid
x2 Blue Acara
x2 Firemouth
x1 Ctenopoma
x1 Electric Blue Jack Dempsey

So if you can tell me what would be ok..awesome!.......:headbang2
Thanks in advance... :D

Which species of ctenopoma u planning to keep? There so many species. I have the leopard bush fish and when alone it becomes aggressive toward my bichirs. When I started adding more it become sociable with the other bush fish and chills close to the plants waiting for food. It's not aggressive anymore. They are about 8-8.5" max.

I have the Leopards, and they are in a community tank- never any issues with them, except they ate my 1" cory cats.

What are you goona do with the other 1/2 of the Jaguar Catfish? :P

But seriously, I had a sadly short lived Ctenopoma acutirostre in a 55g community tank, and I found it to be quite docile to any fish that won't fit in its mouth, which by the way is bigger than it looks. Mine spent most of its time pressed against the driftwood in wait, only to spring at a passing guppy in a flash. Provided your stock are all at least half the body length of the ctenopoma, I doubt you'll have a problem with it.

One thing to note however is not to keep the feeders in the tank with your ctenopoma. Give him just a couple to hunt through out the day, or he'll likely gorge himself to death. I believe this to be the cause of death of mine. And be sure to provide it plenty of cover, they are true ambush predators.

What I want to know is the proper pronunciation of ctenopoma?

They only problem Ive ever had with Leopard Ctenopoma was with a young Dat. Thats only cause the Dat would steal food out of his mouth then they would scrap. My is very peacefully toward all other fish even very small Zebra loaches 1"1/2-2" an not territorial at all. My opinion a great community fish for 55 gallon.

Do you have Jaguar catfish in your tank already? That is on my wishlist but I can not find any in stock any where.
