ctoychik's update on the outdoor set-up (RTCs, gars, arapaimas + Os)

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Sadly, paimas did not made it through the winter without heating, while gars perished for even more stupid reason. So the current residents (until my new batch of paimas growup) is two fat RTCs, marble pim (who is on the way to rule this tank) and an ancient O.

Marble pim is the most interactive resident that ALWAYS up for hand feeding. RTCs are struggling to keep up during feeding. This guy can really eat. The favorate treats are shells and heads of prawns that are not fed to aros.

These are my real remaining monstersized monsters.... hmmm though i suppose my silver aros are quite large too though nowhere near as massive... One day my dogs killed a snake - the carcass was fed to them... no point to waste meat i guess

The water is clear but only one side of the glass has been cleared of algae ... maid got no time to scrub so i tell her only to change water

PS: still contemplating whether to get alligator gars again or not ... i am thinking of growing out some Os .... then adding them as tank mates as well

Well, actually, my neighbor has a pond with massive paimas in it and he does not use heating - trial by fire?

My plan for new batch is to heat them through the coming winter 2009 to 24C then next winter try 22C until no heater

Very nice pond! How come you don´t have any heating?

Cos i wanted cold resistant paimas like my neighbor ... his is a concrete earth pond, while mine is elevated above ground ... difference in temp insulation?

I intend to use insulating material on my outdoor pond next winter. Note that RTC's made through two winters :headbang2

i did not know that marble pims grow big? i was planning to buy one of those but now i have to think twice. overall your fish and aquapond look cool and nice updates as well.

Yeah, they grow pretty big though i don't think much larger than what he is now. I hope bigger :headbang2

PS: for reference, the tiles are 40x40cm
