Picture makes him look a bit small, he's actually about 9", biggest I've ever seen in person.
 
The fry tend to start killing each other off soon, along with other factors. I would usually pull some and separate in 4 or 5 tanks to end up with 50 or 100. But even in small groups they are very intolerant of each other. And unless many water changes per week are done, bloating is a result.
