Cuban Cichlid?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
i have 4 juvie cuban cichlids and 2 of them have paired up. i got them when they were about 2 inches and now there about 3 inches. ive had them about a month or so. they have grown pretty fast. i feed them a lot though. as far as being aggressive, they are very aggressive. they are extremely aggressive to there own kind. i have heard mixed things about them. mine have killed a peacock bass and a jardini (jumped out of tank). there is a 10" marblehorn pleco in there right now that they dont bother and there is a texas cichlid too that they chase but dont seem to pick on him too much. watch out for these guys. they seemed pretty calm at first but when they reached about four months old it was like a light switch that went from peaceful to aggressive as sh*t. they are gorgeous fish though. good luck man.

So they are not worth having with other cichlids then, like a Jack Dempsey,Severum,Texas, ect? That honestly reminds me of my old Texas who was calm, but then started to go nuts on some of my cichlids, due to him being chased by the Green Terror and Blood Parrot at the time.

Depends on tank size and the temperament of the individual fish. Mine grew pretty quickly, from 1"-5" in about 4 months, and yes, they seem to be more aggressive to their own kind. Mine were in with a GT, salvini, argentea, and a couple other Cubans, and I never really had any major aggression problems, except with other female Cubans.

:iagree: what size is your tank? its up to you. i have asked the same question on here when i was gettin mine and some said exactly what i said and others said that theres were pretty calm.

I try to do a mix of cichlids, you guys are correct on the whole more aggressive towards their own kind actually,I tried to put another 7 inch JD and a 10 inch Oscar with the ones I have and that didn't work out too well, but the mix I have going in the 125 gallon,is working out good.in the near future,I do want to get a 270 gallon fiberglass tank with a viewing window.

I think they are shy. Not very fast growers and mine were not aggressive.
