Cuban Cichlid?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I had one in my 220. He'd grew from 1.5" to 4" in about 3 months. He was fine for a while, but he went nuts and killed a 4" FM, shredded my beautiful 6" green sev, had all my other cichlids hiding all the time. He would even bow up at my 8" WC true green terror. So I had to get rid of him. He was a beautiful fish though. GL.

Thanks,my jack dempsey who isnt even king of the tank put all my cichlids, except my oscar in their place,if he is even attacked though, I am going to give a cuban cichlid a chance

gl bro. like i said before mine were quiet at first. now hes freakin nuts!!! beautiful fish though. what size are you looking for? maybe if you find a smaller one he will realize that hes not the king. for now anyways. haha. GL man.

I think they are shy. Not very fast growers and mine were not aggressive.

Couldn't disagree more with this statement. Mine are always in the forefront of the tank begging for food, grew about 1" per month, which is fast, and once they reached a certain size are very aggressive to their own and to some tankmates. I realize this is just your personal experiences with the fish and I'm not putting it down--just stating that I had the exact opposite experience.

Ok,I bought myself a Cuban cichlid that is about 1.5 inches, this one looks too much like a Jaguar honestly, maybe same patterns are the same? When I went to pick him up,the lighting showed white with black patching on this Cuban,I tried to take a picture, wouldn't let me,so I put a video up on youtube instead.

So its not a Jaguar correct?I have had a 3 inch Jaguar, before that grew up to 7 inches, but was beaten up so badly from my Oscar, that I just never bothered to get another one.

Some clear shots of this of this Cuban, which I hope it is.

i bought my cubans when they were 2 1/2 " they are both over 6" now .i have owned them for 2 1/2 - 3 months. i feed the bio gold ,bloodworms ,krill, brine shrimp with 2 50 % water changes a week.. they are housed with a mated pair of jags ,and a i just removed my 5" male texas, and gave him his own tank. the female is still in the tank he beat her up during a spawn.. i have a 180 gal tank and agression is a bit high since the jags have fry,but everyone still has space , but when there is no fry the cuban kind of runs things .. still does imo

The only potential mating pair I had was my male texas and female salvini, but since he has passed away,so I am not too worried about the mating part, but severum and bloodparrot are always together. This cuban I picked up is a little shy as of right now,but loves to eat tetra crisps
