Cuban gar (Atractosteus tristoechus) progression pics

Madding - yeah, they probably go through some of the most drastic pattern change in that they lose most of it very early on. you can also see the thin white stripe on the head, which only gators and Cubans get (they are the most closely related of the Atractosteus genus, Cubans being the most recent of those two) --

lowered the water levels as it makes the vegetation provide more cover. the gar seemed stress when the water levels were high
