xander, growth is the main thing we are after...we took length/weight on all of them the day i picked them up, and they will be measured again tonight before they go into the experimental tanks. they have grown quite a bit in the past 2 weeks, so we will need that extra data point for the beginning of our growth curves as well as the starting point for our study.
i'll eventually be coming up with some creative ways to age them, that way we can calculate growth up until the point we received them (there are growth rates available for the first several weeks of life already in the literature). one of the main goals is putting together a solid growth rate model (this is why we need several fish kept under the exact same conditions - we need several replicates for enough statistical power).
i decided to handle things somewhat differently than the SPG study since these fish started out (at least in our possession) a little bigger, and will likely grow a bit larger. unfortunately i will be on vacation for the next several days, so i will have to count on my roommates to monitor/feed them (always nervous to leave the fishes behind like that, but it's my first official vacation since 2008!!!)
