My cuban gar is always dark to the point its almost black for some reason in my bigger tank. When it was in the growout it was completely gold. I wonder why and I am very confident on its health

its more than fine and I cant stop it from eating. I had a bright blue background in its original tank which might have helped with the color and this tnk doesnt get light and has a black back and bottom

that particular color combination shouldn't affect the Cuban's pattern that much...what is the pH in your big tank? is that the tank with the rays? there are of course genetic (and therefore phenotypic) variations within a species, but it's still unusual to have a Cuban go that dark. at least if it is eating well and appears to be healthy that's good for now--

I will get a pic soon but my friend has my camera. ph fluctuates from 7.4 to 7.5 and its the same tank with the 4 trops and 2 spotted/floridas and everyone is doing well. He was a bright gold though and now is very very dark. Like I said will get pics soon enough
