how sensitive are they truly to ph? mine is around 6.8. i am getting some here soon and i was wondering. i know with most fish stability is more important then what it actually so would they adjust?

also they will be around 5-6" how aggressive would they be toward floridas of the same size?

ok i'll look into the sand since i don't have a substrate yet. if i don't find any i have 20lbs of crushed coral in a bucket just siting there i can add to the tanks filters.

how about the aggression level towards the floridas? is that just a play by ear thing or is there a common level the show. i have read the stickies, but just trying for more detailed info.

ok sweet. i am just trying to be as ready for them as i can. i am noticing as time goes on i am getting happier with just seeing gar in my tanks with a few other primitives in the mix. something about them just keeps me wanting more.

now for my longterm plans i was thinking of adding tropicals, spotted and gators to the mix. i want to have all 7 sp. together. would a gator just f the system up or should it work out? if i don't get a gator to work in this mix, i would still have one just in a different setup and maybe a pack of gators.

You're looking at a large custom aquarium in order to house an alligator gar. Sure, it's not going to get to be 8' long or more, but it's still going to get to be 3' or more.

In any case, you'll want the alligator gar to be the smallest gar of the bunch when you add it; they are the most aggressive gars by far. Even then it might not work out, so be prepared to separate them.

it will ALWAYS be a gamble with a gator gar, so other than using a multi-species gar tank as just a grow-out for a gator, just assume not adding one to the mix. it can and has been done in the past, but it can be to the great detriment of your other gars. Cubans and trops can also be quite aggressive...IME the CBGs are more aggressive than TPGs, although this can vary.

also keep in mind very few have long-term experience with keeping these combos, so most of what you are hearing on forum will be speculation and regurgitation from few accurate sources of info, so there is some loss of information fidelity along the way.--

ok, i'll just do a seperate group of gators only then. it would be cool to have them all mixed, but i will not risk my other gars for that one gator.

do you think i should add the cubans last to the tank after i add some trops then?

i have been looking for trops and all i have found thus far has been from rapps at $275 a bit steep from what i have seen and heard, but if thats my only option i may have to take it. i am getting my cubans for cheaper then that so i think it is a bit much. the cubans are a little smaller and i could get the same size as the trops, but it would be $100 per fish and they grow fast at that size so i figured save $300 and go smaller.

also solomon do you have any additional advise to give on the cubans?

Wow, that's a pretty good deal on those gars; I bet that you'll be getting a fair number of PMs asking for your source at that rate! :WHOA:

i can't disclose my source to anyone.;) it is a business partner that i am doing business with so we are both gonna be getting the hook ups. also why i am not saying how much i am paying for them either. i have already said to much on that topic. in fact i may be shot for it. ;)

lets just say it is mutual on all accounts for these fish and others in the future. i send deals down and i get deals back.:woot:

also tonight when i was setting up my sump and the overflow tubes with out taking all the fish out of the 120gal and about half the water which went well, in fact to well. then i went to the store to get sum more media. came back to about 60gals on the carpeted floor due to one tube not flowing right. i went to adjust that one tube that was not flowing right after i refilled the tank up and it broke.:headbang2 that sent the water flowing at about 2000gph down into my sump which has a pump max out put of 1000gph. so i got about 60 more gallons on the floor. so i had to jerryrig a hose to fill the gap till i got back from the home depot with 2 new pvc tubes to replace the bad old ones. so ya.... now things apear to be in working order(knock on wood).
