I have 6 1 inch cuban cichlids growing out alone in a 55 gallon tank. They have only been in there a few days. When i feed them there arent eating. I started with baby pellets but they wont go up high enough to eat it. I switched to flakes so it would get blown around the tank. They are still very shy so when i feed them i leave right away so i dont know if there eating or not. Is this the best strategy? Sould i starve for a day or 2? I have a empty 10 gallon set up should i try grow them out in there first?

Crush the pellets and flake before feeding be careful not to overfeed.

Are you able to get some live food for them? Brine shrimp are not often refused and may get them hunting around for food, then you can add in some flake at the same time to get them used to the idea.
