Unfortunately the fish pictured here is not Nandopsis Tetracanthus. It is a juvenile Parachromis Managuense. A much larger and much more aggressive cichlid than N. Tetracanthus. Male Managuense are know to get to roughly 24 inches in the wild. Although 16 inches or so is average in aquaria. Male or female P. Managuense will require a much larger tank then a 55 or 75G.
Here’s more pics

Are you positive? It came directly from a breeder of Cubans and seems like a tough mistake for a breeder to make, it’s colors are black n white as well. Aren’t Jags gold n black?
Yes I am 100% positive. Young Nandopsis Tetracanthus display a different pattern and are more football shaped. I don’t have a photo of my current juvenile Nandopsis Tetracanthus handy but here is an image from the internet. As you can also see the patterning is different

Ok thanks for letting me know, I’ll contact the breeder and see what I can do

Here is an adult male N. tetracanthus to compare

now a female, notice the difference in face profile, more torpedo shape, and the solid dark area in the dorsal females.

What tank size would a jag need if I decided to just keep it? The web is saying 70 but i know that’s not right. Would a 125 or a 4ft 120 work for a while?

You could possibly keep a female Managuense in that size tank, however I wouldn’t want to keep a male as in my opinion it will be cramped. As a Growout tank it could work for a while

Thank you, is this one big enough to tell gender yet?
