I have an empty 40 gallon terrarium that i'd like to set up for a 'comunity' tank with tree frogs (whites, green tree, red eye?) and anoles, with anoles as the primary focus.

I have heard that the green anoles are no the best beginnner species, and can be quite aggressive, what are your thoughts on this and the general plan?

Thanks,
B.W.

It's not usually a good idea to mix herps at all. And your right, green anoles are not good for beginners but because they're cheap they offen are the first lizards someone aquires. Your tank really isn't big enought for more then 3 of them I would say. Night anoles are out of the question because they can get pretty big and are territorial and eat other lizards. You might be able to keep a couple of brown anoles in your tank. Keep it a one species tank.

what are nights and browns?

Big lizards eat smaller lizards... The browns are going to get eaten.

Green Anole is no different than any other anoles, the only reason why they are not recommended for beginners is because they are the most common anole species in the pet trade. Anoles are not meant to be handled, and most people want to handle them. If you intend to use them as display, and display ONLY, then they are awesome pet to keep.

Mixing them are not wise. Anoles generally fear everything that move, and for good reason -- they get eaten by everything.

Your title of this thread has cuban in it. The full name is Cuban Night Anole. I used to have one a long time ago. They get big and are nice pets for verticle display tanks. They don't like handling and can give a nasty bite. Browns are the second most common anole that you will see at petstores. They are about the same size as a green anole but are, well...brown. They can't really change color and have a red to yellow throat dewlap. They are more of a ground dwelling species then a green.

Here is a quick look at what you aim to do:

In other words, a white's tree frog will eat ALL of the other inhabitants. Also, nocturnal and diurnal species in the same enclosure = stress.

Ok, say for a strictly one species tank, if greens,a nd cuban nights are out, what about the bahamas?

If you go with one-species tank, then you can have any anole you want if it is for display purpose only.

whats a good # of bahama's? and where do they spend the most time?
