Great fish.Very active and agressive
 
Yes... Beautiful fish and can be extremely aggressive. Gotta watch the male for wife beatings... Kinda slow growers esp the females. My male has to be in his own tank now cause he chases anything and everything. When his girly is in with him they need to be divided so she can get away from him if need be.
 
slow growers, can hold there own well, fairly compatible, eat most foods IME, breed like rabbits, look stunning!
 
I agree with all above, especially the aggressiveness.

I believe they prefer warmer temps than many of the mainland centrals when young.
I've read natural habitate reports on high 80s, even 90s.
 
High temps (upper 80s) and lots of water changes really gets them going.
The only problem with the high temp is it seems to increase aggression.

this one is from the 1st spawn back around April (if I remember right)and is now about 4"TL. Don't know whether you'd consider that fast growth or not.

i would call that fast for there species!!
