Cubans

I recently got a "pair" of Cubans, male around 15cm, female around 9-10cm. Was wondering what the growth rate on these guys is and at what size should they become sexually mature? Any other info would be appreciated . Cheers, Tom

Nice tetracanthus! I experienced very slow growth when I had mine. I think after about 6" or so they get quite slow

Females will be ready to spawn at maybe 3-4" (7-8cms) and males a little larger.
When females are ready they get very dark, especially in the dorsal (like the 7.5cm female below).

Her mate was another 2/3 larger when they spawned.


Mine were daily slow growers, but fry grew rapidly with daily, or every other day 30%water changes. I believe water changes are the most important factor in quick growth.
My male finally hit about 25cms, when I gave them away after 2 or 3 spawns.

X2 on liking Cubans a very striking fish. Our pair have been spawning non stop. The female if lucky is 4 inches and male about 6. They were alot smaller when they began spawning though. Rodder your should spawn real soon good luck.

Definitely would love some Cubans myself I like how the females look, males look stunning as well with the shiny look.

Cheers, yeah they seem to be presenting themselves as very cool fish! The female is starting to colour up, could be expecting some eggs!

How exciting bro, are they by themselves or is there tank mates ? I bet they can get pretty mean huh
