cuckoo catfish successful spawn!!!!!!!!!

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Unfortunately all my tanks are having a massive ich outbreak so I dosed with that copper stuff. *If* the babies survive I will be stripping her in 5-14 days. I'm not sure they can survive that though. The mom doesn't have any visible ich. Its just a small rubberlip that has a butload of it. As soon as the ich is gone I'm strippng her and placing her for recouperation in her 10gal.

most recommend stripping cuckoo fry as opposed to letting the female spit because they grow much faster then cichlid fry and once they've eaten the cichlid eggs and fry they turn on each other, so you'll probably have a smaller brood if you let the female lab spit.

If you crank the temp up to around 80-85 ich has difficulty growing

UPDATE:
Ok so the babies didn't survive the ich back in May but I woke up today and it seems she's holding again! This will be her biggest spawn yet, her mouth is bulging so far outward she must have at least 50+ babies. Not sure if the cuckoos spawned again though. It happened overnight this time. So I was asleep.

Pics of the holding yellow lab
Tbh I'm worried the males going to kill her. He's killed 3 females, a frog, several plecos, and some synodontis. She's floating at the top of the water line breathing heavily. He attacks her, rips of her caudal fin, chases, water splashes everywhere.
