curious behavior? and ID help

Thank you for your input tbtb. I'll give that a real thorough reading. I based my assumptions on healthy appetite and normal behavior. Tank is 125 6ft. Temp is 78 and I run 2 200 w eheim Jager heaters all fish have been in there for 6 months. Tank has been running for almost 8 months in my home and 10+ years at the previous owner. I reused substrate and about 30% of his water on set up. There are several ca/sa cichlids in with the cat.
3" cyanogutattum (sp?)
3" red tiger motaguense
2.5" convict
2.5" flower horn
4.5" midas ×2
5" Oscar
5" Vieja synspillum
Grow out tank, not that it's particularly relevant

Water changes are weekly 50-70%, I use prime. The 3 tests I've been using are api, ammonia, nitrite and nitrate.
API liquid test tube tests? If so and they are not expired and you (forgive me, I merely don't know your level of expertise) know how to use them, then this excludes the water parameters.

Aeration sounds good too.

I think we are left with an illness that I guess either affects its gills = breathing ability or its brain / central nervous system, e.g., a brain worm or infection.

I'd separate the fish into a hospital / qt tank, if you had one.

I won't take offense to your line of questioning tbtb! I just appreciate the input and experienced opinion. Liquid test tubes, not expired... had the owner of the lfs show me how way back when I first started and he delivered a tank and some fish for me. Full test kit should be in monday. The catfish has only done it a few times since I posted originally. I sure hope it isn't something serious :(. I have qt tanks, problem is their packed up as we're in the process of moving.

Well, I'd just observe it closely for any changes in appetite, positive or negative, and appearance.

If too worried, it may not hurt to treat the tank with a mixture of the very safe anti-parasitic metronidazole and praziquantel, but it'd be shooting in the dark, kind of a prophylactic mostly.
