Current Betta Set-up

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Beautiful set up. I am thinking about a betta as a classroom fish in a 35 hex. What do you see as far as lifespan and what if any tank mates?

I've heard of lifespans up to 7 years, but 2 seems to be the average; though I'd strongly guess this is due to them not being given adequate care in this regard.

For tank mates I'd go snails or shrimp; I personally wouldnt do anything else, but it's doable in tanks with better footprint.

Only thing I'd say about the hex is, if it's higher than 12 inches height I wouldn't do a betta, I'd do some dwarf puffers instead. Ideal depth for a betta imo is about 10 inches, again this isnt set in stone but I see good health and behaviour in that depth.

Thanks for the info
U can do shallow water in the hex with a betta and some guppies, then put a softwood sticking up out of the water and attach airplants and a bromeliad to it,then add either a pair of red eye tree frogs or a pair of either house or day geckos.

By the way oldest betta on record lived 16 years, several factors contribute to early demise:overfeeding, poor water quality, genetics, lack of exercise and poor diet(give your betta some mosquito larvae or live brine shrimp or ants every once in a while.
