Ebay prices are a bit dicy...you MIGHT get an FX5 for 150.00 plus 30.00 for shipping and then again you might not. Even if you do however it'll cost more than a few bucks to fill that beast up with media.

You have plenty of Bio filtration with the E400's so IMO your best deal (with your budget) would be another XP3. split the existing bio-media between the two Renas and then fill the rest of the space with low cost filter floss...(polyester batting). This will increase your mechanical filtration capacity and extend the servace intervals.

Not only will this come in under your stated price limit...you'll have two of the same cartrage filters and thats always good from a spare parts standpoint.
i say go w/ fx5 as well. try monsterpets.com they are superb and very friendly. they will even take your debit over the phone if you wanna call direct. as far as media goes you can fill this 5 galon bucket with media for under 60.00 and not have to touch it for a couple of months. 900 gph, easy maitenance and very quiet but effective piece of equipment. to lower media costs use ebay as well or online stores. also petco has a lot of eheim media on clearance at like half off. stock up for future use. you may be a little short now but you may have more funds by the time you need more media in a few months. good luck;)

Odyssea CFS 4 for around 65 bucks or less. A bang for the buck.

Lol.. I'd call that "broke" for the buck. I purchased 2 on ebay a long time ago.. both broke withing 2 months.

They broke because you tried to maintain them. Just stuff them with ceramic rings and do not ever touch them again.

^ I agree with this. I had mine for 3 months and it has been working like it did the first day.
