So a 30 gallon tank, land and water meet in middle, at about halfway up the tank's height? That would be around 7.5 gallons of water, so that would limit the choices quite a bit. Tiny nano fish eould be the way to go. If you wanted a south american theme, ember tetras would fit the bill.
Oh okay any other fish that can go with the ember tetras

I have a cat, two bearded dragons, 6 leopard geckos, a 90 gallon with a three stripe mud turtle, breeding pair of cryptoheros cutteri, herotilapia multispinosa, a salvini, and 2 ebjd, and a 210 gallon mostly vieja community.

This summer project is building a stock tank riparian zone with brook pouring down the riverbank into a pool. Mostly as an excuse to buy a bald pond cypress.

This is from my experience with eastern newts, if it can fit in their mouths and they are slow, food. They get 3 maybe 4 inches. They are escape artist too, so a good lid is needed.

You could have quite a few in there, maybe 7 or more.

A riparian zone or riparian area is the interface between land and a river or stream."

Essentially I'll be making a bog filter but combining it with the body of water it's filtering to make an outdoor paludarium.
