my 9" johanna didnt make it , i guess i just cant keep pikes ... uh well, what really sucks is that i couldnt even get pics of him in the tank before he croaked... this is a sad night for sure

Havig it only that long makes me think it was damaged in transfer, the damaged gill arch could have been seeping blood the whole time. It would be worthwhile to get out a good magnifying glass and inspect the gills themselves to see if you can find the source of the damage in case it was a parasite.

ok thank guppy... i guess im just not one of the "lucky" guys... all i can do now is get something else.. looks like pikes are too hard....

what should i look for in the gills?

Sorry about your fish. Hang in there. Do you think he was sick when you got him, if so watch the other fish you dont want to loose anymore.

Pikes are very hardy fish, especially at 9". IMHO, I would try to find out what caused the death before I put something else in there. Because if it can kill a 9" pike, it can kill almost anything. HTH.......Keith
