Red aro
2 malas
Pleuro
Oscar
Curupira
PB
Cuban gar

The Oscar and PB are there as distractions and can be removed when needed.

I wouldn't say keeping them well fed keeps there aggression down, but it definitely stops them from trying to eat tankmates IME. I also read a thread that was old though at that time and that was some time ago where it was said one of the two was more aggressive towards the keeper but less aggressive towards othe fish and vice versa, the validity of this I've no clue of as it was only mentioned once and I believe by jelly. That can just be a case to case thing. I'd say for the key factors, the Aimara shouldn't necessarily be smaller, I feel that can go one of two ways, it can make the fish intimidated and run, or intimidated and retaliate. But I'd say the same size as your other wolves would be good. Fish should be well fed regardless if behavior, and that's doesn't mean over fed or under fed. I feed my curu once every two days for example, and she/he would look pregnant kind of for a day or so and then the second day he/she is ready to eat again. A large tank of course attributes to what you can get away with, and amount of fishes kind of, dither/target fish can help, but those would be something faster than cichlids.. Typically a shoaling species as well, i.e. Tinfoil barbs, bala Sharks, silver dollars etc.

Thanks for the feedback again.

Looks like I might have to pull the trigger soon again - LOL!

Just to throw another idea to the mix:

How about getting another Curupira to the comm?

From what I gathered, Curupiras are species aggressive. It is harder to mix 2 Curupiras in the same tank than having a group of different wolves?

Some members even have 2 or more Aimaras in the same tank. I believed one or two members tried to comm 2 black wolves together but failed in the end. Any thoughts?

The last option will probably be a Lacerdae but I know this will be a long wait before a confirmed species and acceptable size one comes along.

My aimara tolerates the Mala who is about an inch longer and much thicker just fine along with bichers but with anything that moves a lot, he will go out of his way and launch himself to try to take a bite out of. Had to remove the pleuro and Armatus. The aimara just can't manage to catch the dorado because he swims too fast.

Thanks greenerinks,

That's why I am having seconds thoughts these few days.

Having read thru almost all those posts by those who made successful Aimara comm; most have a some big and spare tanks ready just in case.

Also, some raised their Aimaras from small sizes with slightly larger fishes. The suitable size for me is probably 10 inches thereabouts - possibly being kept alone all the while.

I am actually leaning towards adding another Curupira while waiting for the elusive Lacerdae. They are so active swimming around the tank - makes the tank bustling with energy. :)

You have to try the aimara again bro! They behave totally different in a tank full of large, active fish. I was so used to seeing aimaras just it around and watch the world around them that I thought mine was going to die because of how active he is. My guy spends his days perched up on the driftwood when he's resting, otherwise he's swimming mid water begging for food alongside my dats and mahseers.

I bought mine on mild impulse, but its quickly become that one fish I couldn't live without.

Hahaha. You got me thinking again.

Anyway, there was a guy who tried to comm 2 and 3 Curupiras on different occasions and failed badly.

It seemed that black wolves are very very intolerant of each other except when they paired up - similar to Channas perhaps?

Bro shookOnes,

Are you planning to add other types of wolves into the mix? What I've learned, most wolves mix very well with birchirs.

Curupiras are said to be the most aggressive towards other wolves in general, anyone ho has tried to keep two together has failed. I've not seen anyone post about keeping one long term with another wolf, but if you go on YouTube you can see videos of a curu and mala together. I would not add another curu if I were you. Wes who brings in a lot of different wolves in for us, has said curupira has been the most problematic, and he rarely has problems with other wolves but these he can't seem to comm well. Also keeping mine with a mala at one point, he was always the aggressor. I would try one curu with any wolf and leave it at that, one day I hope to comm a number of wolf species together just as you are attempting and as DB has done. To add to what greenerinks said, I have experienced something similar with my curu, he tolerated two large bala Sharks for a couple months but as the months went by he seemed to grow annoyed with them and eventually killed them, atleast I suspect it was him, only other fish that would have been capable is the odoe but he swam with them and never bit them from my observations, I also can tell the difference between the two bite marks and it pointed to the curu. I'd add an aimara before a second curu. Aimara aren't usually as bad as they are led on to be now that people are beginning to keep them. And wolves and bichirs seem to be meant to be in my case to the point my curu has begun to defend them when I get close to one, especially the ornate. In conclusion, I suggest the aimara way before I'd suggest a second curu. Another species you can try to get is a gold wolf.

Hey bro, I would definitely lean toward the Aimara before I would add another Curu. They can be very temperamental. I have a 13"-14" Curu and every wolf I've tried to commune with him he has showed unrelentless aggression to. The funny thing is he doesn't bother my Goliath, Dorados, Jardini or Silver Dollar, just any other wolf that enters the tank. Just my experience though.
